First off, I want to say thanks to all of you who have been in touch on Facebook and the blog over the last week or so. I feel so welcomed in the big Emergency Essentials family!

I loved so many of the responses to my first post about starting to prepare. I thought I would share a few of them here.

Jay suggested a simple approach that is also budget-friendly. “When you go to the grocery store, instead of buying one can of what you already like--buy two and put [one] in your cupboard for a rainy day.” Jay, I like the way you think!

Sandy shared the very important advice that I (and you!) avoid debt when prepping. I agree 100%, and I am personally working on paying off all of my current debt so I can be debt-free.Sharon suggested that the way to start is by prepping for an emergency first and a larger-scale disaster over time. I love this suggestion, because preparing for a more “standard” emergency (like a minor quake, or a short-term job loss) seems so simple!

There are more suggestions in the comments, so if you haven’t already done so, go back and check them out! Lots of good information for us newbies!

Until next time!

I have gotten some of your items as gifts and started our storage plan. I really enjoy your blogs and I get your updates via Facebook as well. It doesn't take huge disaster to cause usage of storage. One of our family members and her crew of 5 lost everything due to a car accident. They had to move in with us and believe me, some of that storage was so helpful, especially the milk. With two teenage boys, that was something we had to have 24-7.

Yes, those are great suggestions! They are ALL helpful, but I find the one about preparing for an emergency first, then prepare for a larger scale disaster next the most helpful. Starting off thinking in terms of the larger scale disaster has been overwhelming!
