Does Wearing a Mask Prevent You From Getting The Coronavirus? - Be Prepared - Emergency Essentials
The coronavirus has taken the world by surprise since it emerged in mid-December in Wuhan, China. As of today, at least 362 people are dead, 17,300 people have been infected globally, almost 60 million people are either on full or part-time lockdown. The number of coronavirus deaths in mainland China has surpassed that of the SARS 2003 epidemic in the country. There are at least 11 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the United States. What can you do, if anything, to protect yourself from a pandemic or the coronavirus? Your typical answers are always going to help...wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching your nose, eyes, or mouth, and avoid coming in contact with people who are sick. But could you be doing more? YES!! Stay prepared! The coronavirus is airborne so wearing the correct mask could be helpful to avoid inhaling the virus and having food storage on hand in case of an evacuation or lockdown. The type of mask to use is an N95. N95 masks filter at least 95% of airborne particles. In order for this mask to be effective, it is vital that you properly wear the N95 mask. It should have a snug fit and cover your nose and mouth. Use both straps of the mask to ensure air does not leak through. These masks are not suitable for children or people with facial hair. The most effective way to protect yourself from a virus is to isolate yourself. There are millions in China right now that are on lockdown. You may not be going out to work or even the store for days or weeks. This means you and your family would be hunkering down at home for long periods of time...longer than with many other types of disasters. The most important supplies to have in this scenario are long-term caches of food and water. It is recommended to keep a 72-hour kit on hand for emergencies such as this. We recommend our basic and ultimate kits, both of which include an N95 particulate filtering mask. These kits have always carried the N95 mask and quality is of the utmost importance to Emergency Essentials. Being in business for over 30 years you learn a thing or two about what it takes to thrive in disaster. We've helped tens of thousands with countless emergencies and our top goal is to help you and the people you love to prepare for whatever life throws at you.

Got one more run to Costco and we are done. We’ll be strutting’ with the latest fashion craze, mask, eye covers and gloves. Will settle after that like a bear for a long winters nap.

Hello,

Do you have recommendations for eye protection, since the coronavirus can enter through your eyes as well as your mouth and nose?

IF you MUST go out and you WILL wear a mask, you can apply a sturdy tape all around the edges of the mask to ensure that there is a much better air seal….a good medical tape will work.

Consider using a cotton dust mask saturated inside and out with colloidal or nano silver solution. Could be used in conjunction with an N95 mask. Also protect eye and ear entry points.

Unfortunately not even an N95 mask protects the eyes…or protects us from ourselves!

Washing hands frequently- ( Sing "Happy Birthday "twice) and use a nail brush. Teach children to do the same. Practice NOT TOUCHING the face, nose, eyes with hands. .

After touching surfaces in the public- WASH HANDS. Hand sanitizer is ok but not the best .

Get a flu shot every year. CDC estimates that during the 2019-2020 flu season (which is not over) 10,000 Americans have died.

Cough, sneeze into the elbow. Teach children to do the same. Stay home if you are sick.
