I would like more detailed information how to properly use our 72 hr kit because it is important we know how to use each item and what to do if something doesn't work or is lost. It is not enough to just have a kit available. thanks

I am always worrying about how to prepare for emergencies with little children. They are always changing as to their needs, especially babies and toddlers that I feel like I can't keep up.

A Discussion about the proper storage of various foods would be awesom.
Topics could be broken down to include length of storage for various foods, various ways to store (on shelf, in buckets, hermetically sealed, vacuum packaging etc), best places to store, how to deal with high temps etc.

This blog is a great idea. I'd love to see one item featured each week or month. Then people who have used it can post how they use that item and perhaps recipes.

Our food storage and emergency preparedness items are in our basement. I worry about an earthquake and not being able to get to anything. I would like someone to address other solutions.
What do other people do that don't have basements and should we not use it as a storage place? Thanks for this great site. Molly Utah

Recently I started to make my own yogurt and I use reconstitued EE's powdered milk to make it. I remembered I had bought some EE dehydrated raspberries and before serving I use 2 Tbls. rasperberries in each cup serving, wait 15 mintues and serve. I do not rehydrate them as there is enough moisture in the yogurt to do the job before eating.

I need help figuring out what to do in an urban environment.. I am originally from Texas and knew how to live off the land…now I am in a small apartment in the shadow of NYC. We do not have access to the back yard and the only plants I have are in pots in the windows…I also have a little boy who loves to pull the "flowers" out of the soil and use the dirt for his trains. We have very little storage place and need to be as compact as possible. I would love to move but can't afford to….any ideas?

Last year for the first time we had a hurricane come all the way up to us in east TX. We already have tornados, so being prepared is becoming second nature to us.

I just purchased 2 55 gallon blue water barrels from you, to put in my basement storage room. I would love some information on how to keep the water pure, how frequently I need to change the water, and any special tricks, tips, or tools you know of to make it easy to store and use the water.

Thank you for helping to encourage people to "get prepared." I come in from out of town to purchase items from you when I was compiling "72-hour kits" for my children and grandchildren. We displayed the kits at an emergency preparedness fair which we held in our Stake in April. Our neighbors came and commented to me that they had never heard of 72-hour kits and were very interested in getting one. I'll direct them to your website.

What happens to differnt fats over time. Do dehydrated fats oxidize in the process? Is freeze dried cheese a good option for storing fats because of this?

I would like to discuss nutrition of storage foods. Does it loose it nutritional value over time? What is necessary for a balanced extended emergancy plan? Etc..

Jennifer

Compare what happens to differnt fats over time. I've heard that drying fats oxidizes them. That's why I've been reluctant to stock up on dehydrated eggs and butter powder. Can you start selling coconut oil, canned butter, palm oil shortening, or ghee?
