I would be very helpful to hear some suggestions about food storage rotation. I am trying to have things in order, but find I don't actually know how to use it and rotate it :(
THANKS!!

For future subjects:
Storage of food and water— where??
Esp if limited space available, possibility that home may not be usable/accessable in some emergencies (earthquake country here!)

Review/comparison of the different grinders/mills you have

How to "rotate" without needing to empty out the storage each time

"other ingredients" in the canned items you have— could you list these on the information page about the individual items?

Hi. I love the new blog.

To your question about topics, here is my list:

1. Tips and techniques for preserving food (e.g., drying/dehydrating, canning, packaging)

2. "how to" articles — using a shortwave radio, using solar power to recharge batteries & run small appliances, setting up a tent, anchoring a tarp, etc.

3. lessons learned - tips from people who've used their emergency kits and learned from the experience (things that proved most useful, thing they wish they'd have incuded in the kit)

4. product reviews

5. anything to do with water purification & storage

6. bugging out versus staying in place

7. safety tips, first aid

8. challenges and quizes (every time I participate in one of these, I find out I'm not as smart as I thought :)

Thanks for the blog!

maybe some good ideas on how to store our food storage in some kind of clever way? I mean for those who don't have a lot of extra space and have to either have it out in the open or get creative.

great blog, thanks!

I would love a discussion on how to cook on the many different outdoor camp stoves and over a campfire. It would be great to also know if you can cook yeast breads and how to do them on a campfire or camp stove. How to make a camp oven would be great also. Winter survival would be another great discussion. How to keep warm and dry in extreme cold and harsh weather is always a concern.

I would love to hear about how to creatively use the food storage items that don't last long (powdered milk, potato pearls, etc). These are items that I don't usually like to use in normal situations, but don't want to waste.

I'd like to read about how often you should rotate water supplies. I was thinking about having four 6 gallon containers and rotating one out every quarter. Would that be acceptable and minimize bacterial growth? Or would I need to rotate them more often? I'm trying to minimize "management" of emergency supplies without having to increase the effort if we ever have to use them.

I would like to see a comprehensive plan for food storage that includes MRE's, Dehydrated and or Nitrogen packed foods as well as complimentary items from the local grocery, farm market, etc. So many sites only talk about what they sell and assume that money is no object. Present a plan for those on a tight budget. A "Follow this plan and in 6 months your family WILL BE PREPARED". Help people with an order plan for each month. Perhaps break down what a family should have by $100 amounts. If you can afford $200 a month, you'll be ready in 6 months. If you can only afford $100 a month it will take a year, but at least you can get started rather than waiting and hoping you will somehow come up with money to buy all at once.

I'd like to know an easy way to get started on preparedness for those who are EXTRA busy and feel they don't have to time to focus on preparedness and have a REALLY tight budget.

I don’t suppose I have a chance to win but there is always a hope. I have a similar kit and was considering buying another so if I could win one would be great.
I read what was said abut the mill and a person at the Nevada Tea Party mentioned a very interesting item to me. Now this probably wouldn’t be approved of by the company; “In the event of extreme emergency a mill could even be used on bird seed and cracked corn.” This started me thinking so a mill will be on my future wish lists.

How about a simple way to keep track of your food storage for unorganized people? When you ordered, what you have, what's opened, how long before the opened items go bad, what's gone & needs to be reordered, what you did not like & do not want to ever reorder…all at a glance :-)
