I have recently been diagnosed a Type 2 diabetic. Much of my food storage is based on wheat, grains, and beans with some canned tuna. What would you recommend for storage to increase the meat protein. I don't use a lot of beans or grains on a daily basis because they spike my blood sugar. Having lots in storage that I shouldn't eat makes me nervous. I would welcome any suggestions. Mary

Welcome to the blogosphere!
I'd be interested in some thoughts on water, which seems to be a weak link in a lot of plans. I know you have some products (I use the foil bags) but the instructions are always pretty vague on how much pre-treatment of the water is necessary, if any, and under what situations…

I am always interested in creative ways to store food and new culinary creations. I'm tired of bland bean recipes I love branching out and finding flavorful masterpieces among the hum-drum!

When I first became a believer in preparedness I spent hours preparing lists of foods, necessary items, etc.
It is so much easier to have a kit and not have to worry about how long it is good for or if you have forgotten something important. Thank you Emergency Essentials!

Great resource! I would like to see info on how to prepare for a large family on a budget. Where to concentrate efforts when money is scarce. Thanks!
Justin
I would like to read about the most health-concious emergency supplies available.

I'd like to see some info about how to prepare food items without electric power. I have a camping stove, but if I ran out of fuel for that I'm not sure what I would try next. Thanks for the great blog!

I have been hearing about food storage and related topics for years, and I still haven't gotten prepared. I am ready to quit procrastinating now, and just do it. Thank you for the info. and the inspiration. I really appreciate it!

I love your products and the site. Is it possible to get smaller quantities of some items for testing? I work with the Boy Scouts and we are always looking for easier backpacking foods without buying the premade ones.
Margo
I would love storing water discussed. It sounds easy but is the hardest thing for me to get together.
Holly
TIps on developing emergency kits and food storage for families with younger children would be appreciated.

The new site looks great. I'd like to see a future blog discussion on seed sprouting using a sprouting tray. Thank you, Sheryl

A discussion regarding common items that should definitely be part of an automotive emergency kit and/or a home type kit.
Reasons for/against combining such kits. Would it be better to keep a kit in the car or in a closet? How often such kits should be checked.
Maybe an overview of certain emergency scenarios, and how to best get through them and packing a kit geared toward whatever event might be more likely for our particular location. IE, flood, terrorist attack, tornado.
I've seen a lot of nice kits but they either seem to be extremely massive, or missing a few key items. Maybe explain common items included in kits and how to get the best use out of them, strategies for rationing, etc.
Food packs vs Tool packs.
Gail
Just a comment on your product, Burn Free. There was a missionary in our area who got burned badly on his face. When I heard about it I sent over some Burn Free. He had tried soaking his face in cold water but it still hurt so much. The Burn Free immediately relieved the pain and cleared up the face within the week that followed. I have many bottles of Burn Free on hand and am glad I do.
I have been a group leader for about 18 years in this area and love helping people get a good variety of freeze dried foods and emergency supplies (as well as our own supply).

I am so excited about this blog! I purchased survival kits for my family a couple of years ago. And I would like to learn more about preparing water, purifying and the best ways to store it. Thank you for doing this for everyone!!!
While it is the duty of local, state and federal governments to prepare for and respond to disaster, true preparedness begins in our homes and our neighborhoods. How, or if, each of us survives a disaster is directly related to how prepared we are before the disaster strikes. How prepared are you?
Holly
I can develop 72 hour kits for my husband, myself, and older children. Tips on making an emergency kit for younger children would be nice, especially if they're easy to transport, like in a rolling backpack.

Great site!!

Great site!

Also, I hope to see some truthful information here about the dangers of TVP..and alternatives to this other than just rice and beans…
Blessings!

How to handle unprepared friends and family? I have thought about broaching the subject with them, offering them to let them come over if they buy a year's worth of food, a gun, and 1,000 rounds of ammo. But I've told my wife I don't want them knowing we are prepared and showing up anyway, so she should STFU about our preps. What do you think?

I would love information on making food storage kid friendly!
Bonnie
I live close to the Gulf Coast area and would like information for preparing for hurricanes.

I would like to here simple recipes that can be prepared during an emergency, specifically easy bread recipes.
DavidZ
Great site. I would like to know more about water storage and filtering.
Catherine
I would like to see tips for empty-nester parents for emergency ideas. thanks.

I would like to discuss water storage for emergencies. For example: Is it safe to use water stored in recycled containers for washing and watering plants? I have some gallon iced tea containers that have been washed out.
Stacia
I'd like to see more info on sanitation.
Also some mythbusting – like I recently heard it was a myth that you should not store water barrels on cement floors. Myth?
Lori T.
I have seen several articles on harvesting non-hybrid seeds to plant the next year, but have no idea how to do this. Can you discuss what is actually involved in the process?
carrie cavender
I would love to learn and discuss more about how to properly store water, and how much water do I need.
I think this blog will be a great help!
Kathy
How about a discussion on food storage for the diabetic.

This looks like a very interesting site. Hopefully we can learn a lot from it.

I am excited about your new blog. I will be reading this site often! I would appreciate information about preparing children, especially young children, about emergency procedures. Perhaps, you could include suggestions for games, activities, and/or materials which could be used.

I am interested in what items are best for a first aid kit for general travel. Something small enough to fit in a daypack.

This site will be wonderful. I'm looking forward to using it.

I am interested in seeing a comparison of the cooking heat sources and which two would be most appropriate to have for various locations.

Hello All
As a School Teacher I am very worried about the lack of REAL preparedness in the schools in California and else where. As parents we need to DEMAND that School Districts Follow through with Written Planning and Stock Supplies as needed. having a Bed with nothing else is dangerous

I think alot of people are prepared food wise for an emergency but I would love to see a blog on sanitation. Toilets, how to bath with very little water if a crisis should happen. Personally I think if you buy a black plastic 5 gallon weed sprayer or paint sprayer you could minimize your water and the black plastic could become a solar heater during the day sitting in the sun to heat the water.

The top issues for me are water purification and storage methods and alternate sources of cooking, both necessary to survival if regular electricity is unavailable or unreliable.
Miss Skunk
How to use your food storage for evey day cooking. Way too many people don't do this and end up throwing out food.
Lynda Brooks
I would love more info/suggestions on for food/water storage when space is limited.

I absolutely LOVE my hand grinder I bought from Emergency Essentials! I am excited for the blog (and for the recipes)! Thanks!

For those of us who are getting older and have dietary restrictions, I would like to see recommendations of low- to no-salt and sugar-free food items for storage. Almost all prepackaged meals are high in one or both. These could cause serious problems if a person had to live on them for even a 3-5 day period.
Sparky's Mom
Love the site. Would to see tns of recipes for your products
Diane
Look forward to reading your blog. I have referred numerous people to your site and all have been pleased.

I would like to read about recipes that taste good and that are easy using my food storage! :)

Want to compare a bug out bag VS a 72 hour kit.
Also have problems with old beans. Can't get them soft so what do I do with them now.
Like what I am seeing with this new web site keep up the good work.

We are making a "refuge room" in our basement for bad weather and other emergencies. We would like to place a wood stove down there in case we have a winter emergency. We have a small cooking range we could use. Does anyone know if it's possible to convert a chimney once used for an oil furnace for use with a wood-burning stove?
