When making wheat bread is it necessary to add a dough enhancer and vital wheat gluten to the dough mixture? By leaving one or the other or both of them out of the recipe it dosen't seem to make any difference in the final result, except add to the cost.

I have kits in my kids cars. And one in my truck. I have added more stuff to those kits. I need to get one for my Jeep too. It needs to be a bit more comprehensive since if its needed, I'll be a lot further from home…

I would love to see some compare/constrasts between certain items used for emergency preparations, perhaps in a chart form.

Emergency Essentials is a great value. We visted a store twice over Memorial Day weekend and got just what we were looking for and some especially great prices, over 80% savings compared to a local sporting goods store and even a discount store. I would like to have more information on menus and how to make meals, especially main dishes, using only food storage items and water, not added fresh ingredients from the grocery store. It would be helpful to have ideas that are simple in preparation and maximized the use of fuel for one meal. Also, simple ingredients, not a lot of special spices, etc needed. Thanks for the many resources!
Linda
I would love to see more basic things talked about with recipes to go along with them… There are a LOT of new people on the scene of preparing. They need the basics!
I would also like to see some storage ideas for the outdoors, such as buried refrigerators, veggie pits, etc.
Thanks for starting this great blog! Linda

Many people prepare for emergencies but they can take many forms including being laid off from your job. I've been there and it was good that we had the food storage that we had. Unfortunately it happened again before I was laid of again. So we are still recovering from that experience.

Thanks for all the information and items on your site—sure make life a little easier.

I honestly need help with water… if I needed it now I would be in trouble, any ideas and resources on how to store water and what things I would need, how much etc. would be GREAT

We appreciate all the information and items available at your site.

I would love to hear ideas of how to better manage the rotation of the food storage, with its expiration dates.

I would like basic recipes from food storage.

I would love to read about how to prepare and cook beans, especially in an emergency. Right now I don't cook my beans because i don't know how long to soak them for along with how long to cook them, nor do i have good recipes or know in what ways to use my beans!

I live in a small rural Iowa town, so if a disaster strikes the larger towns/cities will get first help and coverage. Which has its good and bad points. I would like more on what to do in week 2 or week 6 or week 13 …. of a disaster.
Thanks for your site.

i am interested in finding fiction and non fiction stories of survival. One of my favorites is 'Parable of the Sower' by Octavia Butler. Her character inspired me back when i was in high school to be aware of emergency preparedness.

I would be interested in discussions about how those of us with physical challenges/disabilities can prepare for both sheltering in place and evacuating. I have a service dog as well as family pets and need to take their needs into consideration. I am also interested in pandemic preparedness and voluntary isolation needs during an outbreak of infectious disease, particularly for a family that includes grandmother, mother and children.

I would like to see comparisons of water filters for both household use & emergency use. I'd like to know about ease of use & quality & cost & frequency of replacing filters. I'd like Consumer Report type of information.

I would like to see more ideas on storage solutions – especially for limited spaces and extreme conditions (such as dealing with heat, humidity, cold, pests, natural disasters, etc.).

As an avid preparer for whatever can go wrong will … I have purchased from Emergency Esstials and keep up with the sites. Thanks folks for everything! One topic for conversation I would like to read more on is how one cares for cleaning body and clothing when water is at a premium. Cleanliness promotes good health and clothing when clean can help prevent diseases, etc. Perhaps some insight into this area would help people out.

Really nice blog. So nice to have emergency preparedness helps so accessible. Thank you.

The blog is a great idea. This is a great way to help all of us. My question concerns what to do once we have basics. We have wheat, beans, rice, etc. What do we add to our supply to make them more palatable? I know hunger is the best sauce, but what else can we do?
Shannon Watson
I'd love an easy to find chart on how long food storage items last, unopened and opened. Today's item in question was whole egg powder. :D

This is so awesome that so many people are interested in Emergency and Preparedness information! Thank you for getting stuff like this out there and available.

I'd be interested in how to share the concept of preparedness with others in a way that doesn't make them think that you're a total "nut job." People who've never considered the concept often give me the "evil eye!" LOL!

I'd like to see label ideas for items you store yourself (either in your pantry or larger storage in your basement). Once you open that big bucket of whatever, you need to put it in a smaller container to keep it usable in your kitchen or campsite. Once you move it out of the original container (or store it there in the first place), it would be nice to have a label on it that covers not only what is inside, but how to reconstitute or cook it. That way, if you're not always the one doing the cooking, anyone can know how to use an item.
I'd also like to see storage ideas for camp living.

Great new blog! Thanks for the new info! :)

I would like to see a chart, comparing certain qualities of wheat grinders:
Volume of flour produced per minute from hard red wheat; Size of input funnel and output tray; Price; Noise level; How does it handle other grains (e.g. soft white wheat); weight; ease of use.

I would like information on storing every day medical needs such as asprin and decongestion, as well as herbal remedies.(how and shelf life).
Jaime
I would like to see some information and discussion about getting started with food storage if you aren't hard core. Like how to build a solid food storage without having to grind your own wheat. Also how to use some of the stuff I have purchased from you but have no clue what to do with…
Rebekah
I would love to have ideas about how to use the food storage items you sell. Maybe some recipes that kids would actually eat.
Joey Mascio
I would like to talk about the differences/pros and cons between MRE's, freeze-dried, dry-packed, dehydrated, and grain barrel food storage. There are just so many choices and I want to be able to pick one that will be the best for me and my new wife. =)
Keith
Any and all topics about gardening. Specifically soil preparation and care.

I love the new blog! I will visit freqently!

Splendid that there's a blog now!
Add me to the water storage requesters. The stability of long-term storage is increasingly becoming an issue, what with plasticizers becoming such a health problem.
Also thermal protection for long-term storage; I live in the desert and you can't just keep things in the shed or garage or whatnot without heat-distressing them. Even burying supplies won't get them out of the heat.

I love this blog!! I'm so excited you got one, I will definitely add it to my families blog!
