Since hurricane season has just begun, I think it would be very interesting to see a discussion of proper levels of preparedness for a hurricane and what supplies (and how much) and equipment should be kept on hand, as well as storage ideas and how to keep the supply mobile.

My family lives in an area that Gulf Coasters evacuation to – Northeast Texas. We usually see a little stronger winds and some rain during a hurricane, but for the most part, nothing too bad. After Katrina and Rita hit and many of our friends were displaced for longer than the normal two or three days, and then after Ike hit and went so far inland (we were in Ike's path, so we saw some very destructive weather), we realized that having the supplies is only half the battle – having them where they need to be and thought out for availability and mobility is as important as having what we need!

Thanks!

I noticed many have said that they would like to know more about water purification and i am in agreement. I worry it will become stagnated and do i need to add bleach and how much to 5 gallons and a 55 gallon drum?
Need to know more about different filtering processes should we need this option in a disaster. Great site!

Great site!

I would love to hear about more "natural" and "green" as well as "eco/people-friendly" food storage. I have a hard time finding bulk foods that I know are good, safe, organic sources.

Also, water is key in food storage and I'm still in the dark on this one. Not b/c there's not enough info out there, but b/c there's so much to sort through. And again, are there "safe" ways to store water that won't leach chemicals into my water?

I look forward to blogs on these topics and will check back often!

I would love info on building a food storage with a compact amount of space; storage techniques and ideas for living in a hot/humid climate when storing in a garage isn't ideal and there is no basement. Thanks for the site! It looks great!

I would like to see recipes for using my home-made solar oven and other solar-oven designs. Also, I would like to read about water storage, specifically, how much of the water should be portable and how often should it be rotated?

I would like to a discussion on where and how to "cache" emergency supplies. Like if all your emergency supplies are in your house and you can't get to your house or your house burns down and you just get yourself out with no supplies….what then??

I would like to see information on food preservation in hot, humid conditions. I live in South Florida and Hurricanes are our real concern for Natural Disasters. Food spoilage, even those that were freeze dried is a concern. Suggestions would be appreciated.

I would like ideas as to what dehydrated or MRE's to put into our 72 hour kits. I have 13 kits put together, and run out of ideas for different quick and nutrutious meals to put into each one.

I've been getting your great newsletters for months. However, my husband and I discuss all "big" purchases involving us both. (Big meaning $100 or more.) He's reluctant to spend a whole lot on preparedness (although we live in Florida). How do I persuade my wonderful, normally open-minded spouse? Also, we just bought a travel trailer, so we could use tips on preparedness and RV's and campsites.

I like how you are revamping your catalog. It is more visually appealing. I look forward to receiving it every month to see what is on sale and to look for new products. I would like to see a discussion about how to explain the importance of preparedness to not-so-interested spouses and neighbors.

Never been a great salesman. I personally know most of my community leaders. How do I present preparedness topics to them? I would like to see the community begin to show people basics like canning, cooking from scratch, storage and other low budget necessities.

Discuss "what to take" when leaving an urban setting during riots/bio-nuc/martial law, etc. This site is long overdue – thank you.

I'd love to see some illustrated discussions about creating expedient shelters. Also, it would be good for you to show with photos how to properly store bulk foods using your mylar bags and food-grade buckets. Given the state of affairs in the world, you might also talk about expedient fall out shelters and preparations for nuclear events.
Also, there needs to be tips for food storage for people with allergies. For example, I am allergic to corn, wheat and milk—and yet I manage to use my food storage for my family and myself. I'd like to see tips from others about cooking from scratch from food storage—and avoiding allergens. What else can you grind in a grinder besides wheat/ Can you make bread out of something besides wheat flour? Those ideas might be handy for others without allergies—in case of no wheat on hand but other grains available. Can you cook bread from buckwheat or oat flour without using wheat?
What about a discussion of helpful survival and preparedness books. Which ones are must-haves?
Anyway, I love your new blog! Thanks for this!

I find the actual comments from folks on how to use items (such as the powdered milk, butter and cheese comments) VERY helpful. Sometimes we're hesitant to try things for fear they might not taste good. Comments on how to use such items is very helpful. Maybe you could have the comments sorted in such a way that we could search on an items and find helpful tips and recipes.

Food restriction icons (e.g.; halal, kosher, gluten, etc.) next to kits, MREs, and pouches would be great for us with restricted diets to make quick purchase decisions. Also, for long term storage, some help for those of us that need to consider leavening at Passover time would be GREAT!
