Decent bag for the price

Early in the summer I bought a North Face Alleghany that was rated 40 degrees. In truth it was about a 60 degree bag - I froze 2 out of the 3 times I used it this summer (only in July was I warm). So, I bought the +5 Alpine for $29.00 hoping I would end up with at least a 30 degree bag, knowing that the warmth ratings are a bit relative. I field tested the bag in my backyard last night and was impressed with the peformance. It only got down into the high 30's but I was warm wearing only a t-shirt and shorts. Normally I am a popsicle and at that temp I would need to wear socks and a fleece hat to bed. I was impressed. I even had to get up a couple of time during the night to tinkle and warmed right back up when I climbed back in. This performance was achieved without using the built-in cinch that tightens the bag above the shoulder to hold in heat, and without cinching the hood around my face. I took note that at no time, and in no place, could I feel cold penetrating the bag. I think this bag is a capable of keeping me warm at much lower temps even though when I approach the +5 rating I might want to combine it with long johns, socks and perhaps a hat. It has a draft tube the full length of the zipper and a handy pocket in the flap that closes over the zipper near the head to keep keys handy. If the zipper holds up (always a question on more inexpensive bags) and the fill holds up under repeated washings without bunching, this is a really decent bag for the price. I only gave it four stars because I haven't field tested it near the temperatures for which is is rated.

This is a great mummy bag! We bought 4 of them and had an opportunity to finally use them, they are SO warm! And easily comparable to some just like it with an expensive "K" name! Great value for an awesome bag!
