Having a supply of MRE’s on hand is a great way to eat superb prepared meals during an emergency. Having a supply of MRE’s on hand is a great way to eat superb prepared meals during an emergency. No extra water is needed for preparation and heating is optional. Just tear open and enjoy. Every day you get three delicious entrees accompanied by side dishes, desserts, snacks, drink mixes and more. You will be happy to rotate these MRE meals into your lunches, camping, hiking or everyday meal planning. The on-the-go convenience of MRE’s makes them ideal for an emergency when simplicity in providing a quick and nutritious meal is crucial.

I've been using MREs since the mid 1980s for several purposes, including an emergency kit I have maintained for some number of years. I live in a hurricane and tornado prone area and keep a mixture of MRE's backed up with Mainstay Emergency Ration Bars and Datrex Drinking Water packages sufficient for at least a week to cover any times I may have to shelter in place or evacuate.So far, after more than 11 named hurricanes and numerous tropical storms, Nor'easters and spawned tornadoes, I have been trapped by flooding twice and road damage and tree/power ljne damage twice more and am very happy with all three products during every use. One doesn't realize how much of a morale booster a good meal is when there is little to do and less that is helpful, however the texture, flavor and convenience of an MRE, and a heater pack make keeping a good attitude and making good decisions to protect yourself and those around you from further risk or injury.

MRE Meals

These are not intended to be consumed in place of daily meals ... these were designed for the military to be used in the field. They are high in calories and carbs and really should be used as emergency rations. If you are very active and burn a ton of calories everyday you could probably get by with consuming these on a daily basis. It should also be noted that these are not designed to be pleasant to look at but are intended to be stored for up to five years when stored properly. The flavor of these meal components are much better today than when they were introduced in the early 1980s. Store them in your refrigerator when possible or in the coolest place possible to keep the flavor and texture as it's best. To date the components find the four number code on the package. The first number represents the year so the number 2 would indicate the year 2002 or 2012. The next three numbers indicate the day of the year the component was packaged. The number 3065 would make the package date March 6, 2013. I love the MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) and always have several on hand as I travel or go back packing for several days. Bottom line is you don't purchase these for their "gourmet" flavor but for there convenience although I think many of these are very flavorful. As the kind folks at Emergency Essentials have stated you can purchase these individually and try them out for yourself. Semper Fi!

{Response from Emergency Essentials - Thanks for the review! MRE's indeed make a great food for high energy activities during emergency situations. We too enjoy using them for hiking, hunting, or even just for an easy lunch at work. Try several flavors out and you are sure to find some favorite flavors that you will be comfortable turning to when you need them.}

try a few first

I wish I had tried a few prior to purchase. I ate some of these yesterday (well past the 30-day return time-frame). The cornbread stuffing was a wet mash of bread and seasoning -- taste was OK, but texture and visual presentation horrible. So too the Mexican style mac and cheese, the sausage patty. The bread was like a dense, moist flavorless cracker - yuck. So many other things Emergency Essentials offers are just great. It didn't dawn on me to try MRE's before buying a month's worth. I'm sure these are nutritious, but they are very unappetizing.

{Response from Emergency Essentials – Thanks for your feedback Paula. We are sorry to hear that you were not pleased with the MRE’s you sampled. We do carry MRE’s individually so you can sample flavors or purchase a custom supply of meals that you know you will enjoy. Anytime you are not pleased with any item you receive from us, please contact customer service. We want you to be happy with all of the items you purchase. Thanks.}

I'm Amazed

Never tried an MRE before; never wanted to after all the awful things I'd heard about them. Bought a sampling to try for a family prepper camp. We were all blown away. We didn't even heat them up - and couldn't believe how tasty they really were! The crackers are a bit hard and dry, but fine with the pb & j or the cheese. Everything we tasted was yummy; desserts too. Every bit as good as top rated packaged food diets I have tried.

Prep Now.

I am planning on buying these to add to my growing earthquake / zombie kit. I was first introduced to MRE's in the service back in the 80's, and I have to say these things have come a long way.
As stated earlier, these are great to have during those times when you don't want to have a fire, can't heat up water, or don't have time to stop to eat. In my kit, I have a mix of MRE's and Mountain House items to give a variety.
Remember, survival food is about survival and not luxury; yes the food should taste good in order to encourage you to eat - but this isn't going to be gourmet dining.
Having said that though, I like the MRE's. A whole supply readily available like this is a good deal. Prep now - or be sorry later.

Great emergency choice

I bought a 1 month supply of MREs to add to my variety of food preps. Great thing about MREs is that there is no prep needed if you don't have time to cook, don't have water, don't have time to filter water, etc. I've eaten a few things and liked them. Warming them up of course is best but I've eaten some of it cold. Some of the breads are better than a coffee shop. Highly recommend.

Wonderful purchase!

I was so happy with the amount of food and the taste! I haven't heard the best reviews and the flavor of MREs but my 3 little picky eaters loved them. We use them for camping and backpacking as well as emergency storage. Would buy again!

pretty good eating!

Large selection of food, each entree seems to have about 6 of them. I tried the tortellini and my husband had spaghetti. For desert he had the chocolate chip cookie and I had the maple muffin top. Certainly not 5 star dining but very good. The muffin was moist and tasted like a pancake more than a muffin. I would like it for breakfast! It came with peanut butter, jelly, applesauce, tortillas, breads (assorted), drink mixes like lemonade and raspberry, cheese spreads, crackers, bread sticks. Lots of food in a reasonable serving size. Would I buy this again? In a heartbeat! BTW it came in 2 large boxes, one weighed 58 lbs. Yes you get enough food!

AV Rugby

We received the MRE package enough for 2 months (4 boxes) and felt that it was packaged very well and it was received in a timely manner. We received "everything" as stated on the website..ok they gave us one too many of the hard candies...shhh don't tell. I believe that it was fairly balanced as far as how many of the low end entrees compared to the high end ones. Sure we received much more fruit then the rice side dishes, I prefer the rice, but there is no complaints here. Is it a good deal...I think so!

Pleasantly surprised!

Wow! What a great deal! When I opened this I wasn't expecting such a variety in the entrees. We tried two different items (and I have 3 picky eaters) and they were both great!

Happily surprised!!!

I made this purchase a couple of months ago and really had no intentions of eating until ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. It's an MRE, to me that means only eat unless I have no other choice. Well, my wife and I were too lazy to cook yesterday and decided, what the heck....let's try the MRE's. We popped open a box and grabbed the first three MRE's. What a surprise, this stuff was very good. I kept telling my wife as we warmed it up, "remember, it's emergency food, don't get your hopes up". I myself am more of a picky eater and was truthfully more afraid of trying it than my wife. We warmed up the three entrees (chili w/ beans, BBQ Sauce w/ chicken black beans and potatoes, and the Penne with vegetable sausage crumbles in spicy tomato sauce). My wife was pleasantly surprised, but I was ecstatic. I can actually eat this everyday. I truly expected to eat this stuff as fast as I can to keep it all in. Not the case, will definitely save up and try for the year supply on my next go around. The kids also ate it, but had to be bribed with the chocolate brownie.

good stuff

I bought 3 of the one month MRE kits. All food that I tried was good. Food was comparable to something you would order in a restaurant. Fully cooked and you only need to make it warm for more preferable taste. Sure beats eating a can of vegetables when times are tough.

Great Buy Great Food!

I have purchased more than one of these. The quality is excellent and what arrives is exactly the contents in the item's description. Everything I've sampled has tasted great! This is a good way to jump start a larder, add some variety, and have portable meals you can take on the go. I will purchase more. The calorie count for the one's I've purchased has averaged about 1,850 per day. If you need to average 2,200 calories per day, this supply will provide about 25-26 days of food. You'll need to purchase an additional 10,150 calories worth of meals to have a 30-day supply. Having said that, this is still a great buy that is convenient and great tasting!

Great for Food Storage Program

Arrived promptly and contents was exactly as advertised (except mine was missing 1 piece of candy) :) I inventoried all contents received. The number of entrees, sides, bread, deserts, etc. was exactly as advertised. I made a spreadsheet to log exactly what I had, noting the quantity and calorie count of each. The 1-month kit I received would supply 1,862 calories per day for 30 days. There were only seven breakfast items (2 omelets and 5 sausage patties). The patties are considered an entree. Mine was heavy on chicken and dumplings and 23 of 30 sides were Mexican-style; mostly refried beans. This is not a complaint and yes I would order again. It's a great jumpstart or addition to your larder. It's good to inventory though, so you know exactly how many calories per day you can count on. I've eaten these MREs periodically for a while now, and find the quality and taste to be very good.

Real nice quality

I was expecting some dehydrated ramen type meals, but these are really good, better than I eat normally. I have a basic year supply of grains and this makes an excellent supplemental to the dull grain buckets

Great value

Just what I was looking for...wish I had this when Katrina knocked the power out here. At least I'm ready for the eventual freak Ice storm here. :-)
