Useful for trips
This powerpack needs a little more info on the website, overall a good value. It's essentially a charging station that can also use the 4 AA batteries to power other devices that get their power from USB connections. It can ONLY be charged via USB, or via another input that is meant to hook up a small solar panel that is sold separately. You cannot charge from a 12v auto outlet unless you have a USB power converter to do so (like the one that comes with your cellphone). Charge times are moderate, 1 hour under optimum loading. Remember that not all USB power is the same rating, some deliver less power than others - so one hour is the best time you can get. When it powers your cellphone, it drains it's batteries to do so and works best/fastest if you turn the phone off during charging. It's compact and lightweight, but I'd get the solar panel too - you never know when it's going to be the only source of power in a backcountry emergency. It has a nice little built in LED light too.

NOTE: like most rechargeable batteries, this must be charged every 3-6 months. After long periods of inactivity, the battery chemicals begin to crystalize. It is very similar to a car battery that, when not started for months, will no longer work.
