MRE's are good for short period
As a former US Marine, MRE's are a good source of food for a short period of time. They provide 1200 calories per meal and can have a life span of 3 years at 81 degrees F. MRE's are can provide an excellent food source, but are meant only for a maximum of 21 days at a time because you need additional real food for more vitamins. You can live on them to up to a year, but should have regular food with them. Marines burn an average of 4200 calories per day, but if you don't burn them you will pack on the pounds quick by just eating MREs. I still give it 5 stars, but have a backup plan with real food as well. Before you buy them, check out the serial numbers and have them provide inspection information with the sale of the MRE's, to make sure they are still edible. MRE's can go bad if you don't check them out.

MRE'S as survival food
I have found mre's to be satisfactory in most ways. They are very easy to prepare and they store very well. The taste and texture of most of them is quite good. The deserts are great. As in all food you may not like all of the different foods, but overall they are very good. They keep well. We have been using MRE's for about three and a half years as part of our regular diet, trading then out as we use them. Sometimes when we have company we will fix most of the meal with them and so far no complaints and no one has guessed we are serving mre's. We use them when we go camping or hunting. They are exellent when you want a guick meal or snack. Try them ,I think you will like them.

MRE is the acronym for Meals-Ready-to-Eat. These pouch meals were originally designed for our soldiers in the U.S. Military. These dishes are precooked and can be eaten cold or heated. Great attention goes into developing the recipes for MRE’s.
