Brown Rice & Lentils (Israel) Recipe



1/4 c
olive oil
large onion, chopped—or ½ cup DH [chopped onions]
1 1/2 tsp
Minced Garlic
1 tsp
Chopped Fresh Ginger Root
2 1/2 C
1 C
Brown Rice
1 C
Green Lentils
1 tsp
Ground Cumin
1 tsp
1/2 tsp
Black Pepper
1/2 tsp
Ground Cinnamon


  1. 1) Heat oil in pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic. Cook and stir until onion has softened (5-7 minutes)
  2. 2) Add ginger and stir until fragrant (1 minute).
  3. 3) Add brown rice and stir to coat rice with oil.
  4. 4) Stir lentils, cumin, salt, pepper, and cinnamon into mixture, and cover with water. .
  5. 5) Place lid on the pot and allow mixture to simmer over low heat until lentils are tender and rice has absorbed the liquid—about 45 minutes. (Test for doneness; add extra water if needed.)
