“Every thunderstorm produces lightning, which kills more people each year than tornadoes or hurricanes”—The American Red Cross

June 23rd to 29th is Lightning Safety Awareness week. Throughout the week, the American Red Cross will issue a series of safety tips and educational information about the dangers associated with lightning and how you can stay safe this summer Thunderstorm season at http://www.redcross.org/.

Many of the recent Wildfires and Red Flag warnings across the western United States have been caused by lightning. The Red Cross suggests that “in Colorado, which is currently facing devastating wildfires, lightning starts around half of the wildfires where gusty winds fan the flames, spreading the wildfire.”
