Best bacon ever!!! "I ordered a case of this bacon for emergencies. HOWEVER, I was too curious so I made the mistake of opening a can. This bacon is so wonderful for ANYTHING!! But we especially love throwing it in the microwave and making BLT sandwiches. So much for emergencies! So I'm ordering more!!! I never want to run out."

AWESOME! ...I bought one can to try it... SURELY they could not put a quality product of approximately 50 pieces of bacon in a can the size of a can of soup! Opened the can to try it and had to call my husband into the room to show him as well. We were shocked at the packaging! We immediately warmed some up in the microwave and had a bacon sandwich for breakfast. YUM! Will definitely order more. For some who have an active food storage program, do not let the price scare you. It is well worth it when you think that you can have fresh bacon and do not have to refrigerate or freeze it. We may not always be guaranteed of having electricity BUT we can rest assured if we only have a can opener!

I agree with the customer reviews, this stuff is really good. I like the fact that we can have great tasting bacon without the greasy mess to clean up.

This bacon is delicious! My mom wanted to try it and she loved it so much,we had to order another case to save for later. You won't be disappointed.

Yoder's bacon is seriously good! I have a case put away, and may order another. It would add a lot of flavor to some otherwise-bland storage food.

Any idea about storage after opening? Obviously refrigeration would be best, but is it required? In a power outage, is it necessary to consume 50 slices immediately (!) in order to avoid spoilage?
Thanks
D in MS

Although this bacon has a shelf-life of 10 years, it needs to be treated like any other cooked meat product once you have opened a can.

  • D in MS | June 24, 2009

    Thanks for the reply.

It's a shame it's not worth it to stock this product for power-outage situations unless you're feeding a large, hungry crowd.

I simply cannot imagine even four people eating 50 slices of bacon at a sitting. It would surely make you sick. I wish the product came in a smaller size.

The item description says no refridgeration required after opening.

  • Emergency Essentials® | July 20, 2009

Lee - You must have misread the item descripton (we've all done it). It states there is no refrigeration required before opening. Once opened, it should be treated like any other cooked meat. Have a great day.

Some reviews of this product on the web say it's "revolting", "discusting", etc. Don't believe it! I bought a single can to test, and boy was I surprised!. It's GOOD! It is almost identical to the pre-cooked bacon from the store. I just popped 4 slices in the micro for 20 seconds and it was great! If you like pre-cooked bacon from the store, you WILL like this. I am back buying a case.

I cannot tell you how much my family LOVES this bacon!! I thought when I saw that tiny can that it would be a total waste! BUT, was I ever surprised! There is about the equivalent of 3 packs of bacon in that tiny can! And it cooks up perfectly!!
And, for D in MS, it IS well worth it! It was perfect for my family of 6!! Now, there are 4 of us still home, and it is still perfect! I cook for breakfast, then we have BLTs for lunch. Super YUMMY!! Also, for power outage, I think you cook it up dry enough to keep like any dehydrated foods or bacon bits, so definitely give it a try!
I also have to add that I can my own bacon, but YODER'S has perfected the art of canning bacon! I definitely need at LEAST 52 cans put up in storage for my year's supply of food (and this would only allow 1 can per week). WELL WORTH THE COST!!

Could anyone tell me how Yoders canned bacon would be in a pot of peas or beans? I usually add ham (love that pork fat), but how would this be in an emergency?

  • Emergency Essentials® | January 31, 2012

Jenny- Yoders canned bacon is just bacon, and would be delicious in any setting you would use bacon. it is just strips of bacon, in a can.
