These should last 20 years.

When vacuum sealed like long-term food storage, these food bars should last equally - 20 years.

{Response from Emergency Essentials - You bring up a good point Bot. When these items are protected from from oxygen, moisture, and light, they can last a really long time. The manufacturer states a 5 year shelf life, but if the packaging seal is entact, they may be safe to eat even longer. Thanks for the review!}

These Are Good

We've never had these before, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. These have a harder cookie like texture, and a slight hint of coconut flavor. Maybe like a slightly less flavorful cookie? We all liked these though (the kids went back for 2nds later in the day), and I also love that they come individually wrapped too. I put some of these in the front pocket of our BOBs. Great for hikes and all emergency situations.

Good Taste and Nutrition, Great Price

I was very pleased with the SOS Emergency Food Rations. The 1.60 lbs. package came with 9 individually wrapped bars. The texture/taste of the bars was that of a slightly sweet, condensed graham cracker, and was very satisfying and not thirst invoking. At 3600 kcal, the whole ration will last 1 adult 3 days at a sustenance level, and Maybe half that if a lot of energy is being expended. As for the nutrition, each 84g bar contains 410 kcal, with 18g fat, 53g carbohydrates [31g sugars, 1g fiber], 8g protein, and has 6% daily value of Vitamin A, 15% Vitamin C, 2% Calcium, and 6% Iron. The primary ingredients listed are: sugar, enriched wheat flour, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, wheat gluten, and corn starch. The bars I received were marked as manufactured 03/12 (the same month I placed the order, so Emergency Essentials is shipping out new bars, not ones that are half expired, like some other retailers) with a 5 year shelf life. Overall, I am very happy with these food bars, and I think they are great for keeping with bug out supplies, or for any other emergency plans that involve traveling or relocating. Price wise, I think they are an excellent alternative to MREs.

Family favorite

Ordered the SOS, Mainstay, and the Datrex to compare. It was unanimous. The fact that they are fortified impressed me, and the pleasant taste is a plus. The price is right too. Gladly, the whole family agreed!

Revising my original review

Originally gave these food bars only two stars--not sure why but I didn't like the taste immediately upon opening the package. I found the graham cracker crust flavor developed though and I enjoyed these very much. I've just reordered this package for my emergency kit.

Actually good!

I expected a sawdust/bland taste but these bars are tasty! They are sweet, but not too sweet. But the nice thing is that after eating one bar, I was full for a few hours. I could live off these for a while.

Very Good

I bought this and the mainstay bars to see which was better. Both have vitamins added which I wanted and both taste good but this one is my favorite. It tastes like graham cracker pie crust, each serving is individually wrapped, and it has texture (unlike the mainstay bars). I ordered a supply of both for variety but this one is my favorite.
